A Visit To The Beauty Salon-Get Your Hair Colored
Cuttin Up Studio
The Day is Looking More Prosperous
The day is progressing at Cuttin Up Salon, with the eight o’clock client calling back, asking if she can go ahead and come in to get her hair done. She is unable to go back to sleep, Sonja encourages her to come in as she has lined out her schedule for two hours to do this young girl’s hair.
“Oh, good,” I think to myself, “someone else has problems going back to sleep when they are woke up earlier than they wanted.” The day is beginning to look more prosperous for me as well as Sonja.
Cuttin Up Owner
Sonja Greets Her Client
“This is your first time to come here,” Sonja greets her client, “how did you find out about us?”
“You do my grandmother’s hair and a friend of mine has come to you for a long time,” the new client explains. Sonja gets the name of the grandmother and the friend from the new client and discovers they are frequent visitors to her salon.
"Oh yes," Sonja tells her client, "Your grandmother was in just a few days a go. Your friend has been coming here for quite a while. I just love those two ladies. They are so chipper and it is a joy when they come into the salon for me to do their hair.
Top Layer of Hair is Damaged
Long Hair That Has Already Been Colored
“What are we going to do with your hair today?” Sonja asks the client. The young girl has long hair that has been previously colored and had become frizzy on the top. She has an underlay of black she would like to keep but would like the roots touched up.
“No problem,” as she examines the client’s hair.
Sonja begins working on the client’s hair by separating the top layer that has become frizzy from the dark bottom layer.
“We will have to use two colors to bring your hair to the look you are wanting to achieve,” Sonja informs the client.
Let the Color Begin
Using large clips to keep the hair out of the way while it is being colored, Sonja separates the top layer of hair and begins to apply color to the roots.
Touching Up the Roots
After touching up the roots of the first layer of hair, Sonja applies product to the roots of the bottom layer. This is the second color that will be used on the hair to bring it to the desired look the client is hoping for.
Don't Let That Color Bleed Together
Sonja wraps the bottom layer of hair in a towel before she works on the rest of the top layer. The towel will keep the two colors she is using from bleeding together. She then uses foil at the top of the towel to keep the bottom layer of color from mixing in with the top layer that will be colored lighter than the bottom hair.
"If I don't cover the bottom hair layer, the colors bleed together," Sonja explains, "the bleeding would occur in the middle of the hair and there is always that chance it would show, depending on how she combed her hair.
Conditioning and Setting the Color
Once the color has processed. Sonja rinses the client's hair and puts a deep conditioner on. She then sets the client under the dryer to heat up the hair. This process sets the color and processes the conditioner into the hair folicles. The deep conditioner lasts four to six weeks and keeps the hair healthy.
"Using conditioner helps the hair to stay healthy," explains Sonja, "when you color your hair, you actually damage the folicles, so it's necessary to apply a good conditioner when you shampoo your hair."
The Finished Product
"Oh, I just love how my hair looks and feels!" the client responds to Sonja as she runs her fingers through her hair. "Now can I come back and have a few blond highlights put in?"
"Yes, I would wait for a couple of weeks and see how your hair responds to what we have done today," Sonja explains.
This was a lot of fun watching the transformation of this clients damaged hair to a look of health. Rather than the frizzy look when she came in, she is leaving with a shiny and manageable look.
The day progresses with other long time clients coming in to get their hair done.

Thank you Sunnie. This is the second hub for Cuttin Up and it has been a lot of fun seeing the transformations that happen in the salon.
I have been going to the same salon for many years. When I tried coloring my then blond hair myself, it came out all kinds of awful, brassy shades. Once you find someone good, you should stay there. And it does have a sort of "family" feel, because it takes about 2 hours and everyone gets to talk about what's going on in their lives. Hair dressers really are gifted!
good hub mom, send aunt sonja out here to do my hair for me. it has the frizzy, fly-aways going on so i always keep it pulled back.
Thank you Jean for the comment. I hate changing beauticians and manicurists when I find one I like.
When we come back there I will see if Sonja and family will come too. I think she could show a few people some neat stuff.
I am so glad the girl wasnt talked out of what she wanted just because her hair was damaged. I can't tell you how often that has happened to me. What a difference! Vote up!
Sonja uses excellent product. In the three years I have been visiting her salon, I have never heard her talk someone out of what they wanted. They may have to have a conditioning treatment before she can do what they want but everyone I have watched come to her has left feeling good about their experience in her salon. Thank you for the comment and vote
Wow, that first photo of hair looks like mine. Are you sure she could do wonders with my hair? LOL! Tell Sonja I said hi! Great hub! I loved the pictures you took.
I'm sure she could do wonders with your hair. I love watching the transformations that leave this salon.

Interesting hub..
jojokaya thank you for reading.
That's amazing, what a big difference. I hadn't heard of coloring the layers of hair different colors, but it looks great.
Thank you for stopping and reading Millionaire Tips. It is always appreciated. This seems to be the rage around here and not just the younger set is doing it.
I am so thankful for hairdressers. I'm convinced, the world would colapse without them.
Awesome hub. Voted so. Ann Davis
PS Is that your hair in profile? Exactly like mine.
